Verse after Miranda: The Verse in Numbers 2.1

Verse in Numbers 2.1

Per the Firefly Fandom Wiki, "The Verse in Numbers is a 2009 document created by J. Chris Bourdier that details the colonization and layout of the Verse. It is a companion piece to the Complete and Official Map of the Verse. In November 2011, an updated version of the document, The Verse In Numbers 2.0, was released with added fan content. It marked a collaboration between J. Chris Bourdier and other Browncoats, and included all new numbers and technical specifications. The visual layout to version 2.0 was created by J. Chris Bourdier and William T. Pace. Following the last releases in 2012, all of the original graphic files were lost in a hard drive crash, but they were recovered and updated in November of 2014."

Use it for all your astrographic needs, subject to two modifications:

  • Scale down the populations listed to 1/10... our Verse is a little sparser than the huge but still plausible population numbers given here. A few places, these numbers are just wrong.
  • These numbers are per the 2520 Alliance Census. Populations in 2527 will be 10% to 50% smaller than listed due to the war and disruptions that followed. It's been a hard few years.
  • Verse Travel Time Calculator - Assume a base of 10 hr/AU and a speed factor dependent on the ship class, from 1-10. Serenity has a 4, as I recall.

Verse After Miranda: The Verse in 2527

The 'Verse of 2527 is a politically fragmented, economically chaotic place compared to the previous decade. Unification Day was in June 2511. The Miranda Event (the end of Serenity) happened on November 2518. Both dates' anniversary has become synonymous with terrorist incidents, especially in light of the Miranda Broadcast. The White Sun Civil War of 2520-2522 brought havoc and destruction to the Verse, leaving chaos and disunity in its place. The campaign will start in January 2527, approximately two years after the end of the last campaign.

Verse After Miranda: Character Generation and Dramatis Personae

As we are all experienced players and have played in the setting many times, the characters will be Veteran, with 8 Advances. Apply the following rules and features:
  • Setting Rule - More Skill Points: PC's start off with 15 skill points instead of 12.
  • Setting Rule - Multiple Languages: You know several languages equal to half your Smarts. Either English or Chinese will include enough of the other to curse, order food, or flirt in both languages. You won't be able to have long conversations with people who only speak the one you didn't master.
  • Human Adaptability: You get one free Novice Edge just for being an anxious primate.
  • Honey, We Live On A Spaceship: You want to play a reader? Keep it to yourself, consult with me, and use the Readers rules from the old site. If it becomes public knowledge, you will gain the attention of powerful parties.
  • Starting Cash: Everyone starts with $2000 cash (thanks to Advances), plus one ranged weapon, one melee weapon, and whatever personal effects you can fit in a seabag or trunk that you drag with you. Gear can be found on Verse After Miranda: Gear and Weapons. See me if you have questions.

After the Movie, After the Series: In our campaign, the 'Verse is the multiple-star system adopted as the official model, rather than the single-star system used in early Firefly campaigns and fiction. Unification Day was in June 2511. The Miranda Event happened in November 2518. Both dates' anniversary has become synonymous with terrorist incidents, especially in light of the Miranda Broadcast. The campaign will start in January 2527, approximately two years after the end of the last campaign.

All the old setting materials are available at the Google Site below, since it is entirely usable despite how ugly the new version of Google Sites has become.
