At the moment, the only job lead that the PC’s have is Lord Ashikaga Yorinori at the Sanjo-Bomon. Name-dropping the samurai Nomiya Hidenao as their introduction got them in the door. They made an appointment to see Lord Yorinori, and wound up getting a job as enforcers for House Ashikaga.
While the PC’s entered the Sanjo-Bomon Complex, they passed Lady Isshiki O-Saki and her husband Daimyo Isshiki Yoshinao, as well as three attendants (two bodyguards and a lady-in-waiting). This of course put Tatsuzo into quiet turmoil.
Lord Yorinori demanded some proof of their prowess and skill and was satisfied with Kingoro's archery display. Lord Yorinori offered them a job as warriors in a unit focused on the local defense and maintaining order in Kyoto and the area around the city. He is aware of their skills but reminded them that they are outsiders - if they wish to better themselves, they must prove themselves loyal and effective. They should be grateful for the opportunity to serve their Shogun, Lord Yoshimasa. When they arrived at their new job, they were immediately assaulted by the gaggle of ronin who were standing about. After a vicious but short exchange of blows against 2:1 odds, Kingoro had been knocked out. Of the assailants, most were knocked senseless or slapped silly. This, it seems, was the final job interview.
The PC’s are now part of a group of about two dozen warriors under
the command of Captain Goto Shirobei, a retainer in charge of organizing this particular unit. The unit is composed of various types - some are landless, nameless ronin; some are samurai; others are tough ashigaru, but all are rough customers. They are essentially used as needed by the Ashikaga authorities in the city, specifically to offset the large numbers of provincial samurai. The unit, known as the Kamosengumi, “Kamo Select Squad" is headquartered in a small alley a few blocks west of the Sanjo-Bomon. The alley opens to a courtyard, and there are small apartments located around the yard. It is pretty shabby-looking, but the arrangements are actually tolerable - $300/month, a uniform (a brown cloth vest with the Goto Clan kamon on the back), room and board provided, with laundry facilities and time off. Better than being on the road.

As the session wrapped up, temple bells started ringing in alarm. Fire to the north and the sounds of fighting let everyone know that some great battle had broken out in the Kamigoryo Shrine, near the y-intersection of the Kamo and another river.
