Cyberpunk 2026: Recap of the New Benicia Machine Shop War

Decapitation hit with unfinished business

The PC's became involved in the New Benicia situation through Mohammad “Mo” Benida, a small-scale fabricator whose operation had drawn the attention of the New Benicia Chamber of Commerce after expanding into gray-market firearms components and drug finishing without approval. It turned out that the NBCC was actually dominated by the Holloway family section of the local American Club (AFR Mafia). Pressure escalated through inspections, intimidation, and demands for payment and compliance, with Chamber fixer Prescott Bronson and enforcer Carter overseeing enforcement.

As negotiations stalled and tensions rose, the PC's elected to resolve the situation decisively by targeting Chamber leadership during a predictable weekly lunch. The operation against Bronson and Carter proceeded largely as planned. A vehicle-borne explosive was successfully emplaced and detonated in the NBCC office parking area, destroying the target vehicle. Bronson was killed in the blast. Carter survived with severe injuries but managed to withdraw from the scene, reaching the New Benicia Center office building. The team did not pursue, breaking contact cleanly after the strike.

The immediate result is a disrupted but unstable outcome. Bronson’s death removes a key administrative node in Chamber control over New Benicia, creating short-term confusion and delay. However, Carter’s survival leaves a critical loose end, with unknown implications regarding identification, retaliation, and the Chamber’s next moves. The situation has shifted from negotiation to consequence management, with the team now operating in the aftermath of a high-visibility action.

Possible Follow-On Events

  • Carter Talks – Carter survives long enough to figure it out, leading to targeted pressure or retaliation.
  • Rapid Replacement – The Chamber installs new leadership and resumes operations with tighter security and oversight.
  • Operational Freeze – Local enforcement pauses briefly, creating a window for maneuvering or asset consolidation.
  • Third-Party Contact – Another faction approaches the team with offers, seeing them as capable deniable operators.
  • Escalation Risk – The hit is interpreted as part of a larger move, raising tensions beyond New Benicia.
  • Quiet Resolution Attempt – The Chamber suppresses the incident publicly while handling it internally.
  • Asset Seizure Moves – Opportunists attempt to seize control of vulnerable operations, such as Mo’s shop.
  • Emerging Evidence – Witnesses, cameras, or mistakes begin to surface, complicating the team’s position.
