These are the characters that the PC's interact with in their adventures. This list will be updated continually as new NPC's are introduced.
Ashima Officials
Ashima Masanori — Senior officer of the Inspectorate of Irregular Matters; the PCs' superior.
Fujisawa Tomonori — Junior Ashima civil administrator; guest at the Kanemura gathering.
Merchants and Townspeople
Nakamura Chiyo — Silk merchant, information broker, and Rei's acquaintance.
Kanemura Chiaki — Prosperous merchant, teahouse proprietor, and host of the gathering.
Kanemura Mio — Chiaki's wife, hostess, and Etsu'yo's younger sister.
Matsunaga Jirobei — Building-materials merchant and Naomasa's professional acquaintance.
Okabe Genpachi — Rice merchant and business associate of Chiaki.
Gonta — Elder brother; a broad-shouldered, taciturn brawler with a dry sense of humor and a protective streak, fiercely loyal to the Kanemuras.
Ushi — Younger brother; an even larger, cheerful and somewhat dim-witted brawler, quick to laugh and slow to anger, but formidable when the Kanemuras are threatened.
Yamachi Officials and Retainers
Monobe Sadayuki — Senior Yamachi accounts officer from Mingawa; discovered the missing soldiers and seeks Gorochi's counsel.
Yamachi Harunobu — Yamachi intelligence officer operating under the alias Kawada Harunobu; commands the attempted abduction.
Unnamed Ashima Officer — Compromised junior retainer assisting Harunobu's fraudulent arrest.
Unnamed Yamachi Retainers (3) — Armed Zansha accompanying Harunobu, disguised as Ashima officers.
