Mirel System
Classification:
Non-Aligned Frontier System
Primary Star:
K-type Orange Dwarf
Population:
Approximately 680 million
Primary Industries:
Mining, salvage, ship repair, and independent commerce
Imperial Presence:
Minimal
Mirel is a rugged, independent star system situated along
the western frontier of the Aurelian Reach, near the troubled Shattered Reach.
The system contains five major planets, numerous moons, and extensive asteroid
fields. Its most prominent feature is the Broken Crown, a vast asteroid belt
supporting hundreds of mining operations, industrial habitats, and trading
stations.
The system's principal inhabited world, Harrow, serves as
its political and commercial center, while numerous independent settlements
occupy the surrounding planets, moons, and orbital installations.
Governed by the Freehold Assembly, Mirel maintains its
independence from the Imperium while conducting extensive trade with
neighboring systems. Its relatively unrestricted ports attract merchants, Rogue
Traders, prospectors, mercenaries, and smugglers.
Although prosperous, Mirel remains a rough frontier system
where commercial interests, independent factions, and occasional pirate
activity make local security unpredictable. It serves as an important trading
and resupply hub for vessels traveling toward the Shattered Reach.
Other Systems of the Aurelian Reach
Bastion — Imperial Stronghold
Classification: Imperial
Colony | High Tech | High Law
Bastion is a prosperous, technologically advanced Imperial
system known for its immense arcologies, powerful megacorporations, and
formidable military presence. Neon-lit cities, cybernetic enhancements, and
sophisticated technology are part of everyday life. Strict Imperial laws,
extensive surveillance, and heavily armed security forces maintain order, while
corporate influence and social inequality shape life beneath the glittering
skyline. A major Imperial Navy base and Class A starport make Bastion one of
the safest and most important commercial centers in the Reach.
Mirel — The Independent Frontier
Classification: Non-Aligned
| Frontier Trade System
Mirel is a rugged, independent system known for its
extensive asteroid fields, mining operations, and bustling free-trade ports.
Its famous Broken Crown asteroid belt supports hundreds of mining settlements,
industrial habitats, and trading stations. Governed by the Freehold Assembly,
Mirel maintains its independence from Imperial authority. Merchants,
prospectors, mercenaries, and smugglers mingle freely in its crowded ports,
where opportunity and danger often go hand in hand.
Caelus — The Wasteland
Classification: Non-Aligned
| Post-Apocalyptic | Lawless
Once a prosperous industrial system, Caelus was devastated
nearly two centuries ago by a catastrophic planetary war known as the Great
Burning. Its only habitable world is now a sprawling wasteland of irradiated
deserts, ruined cities, and scattered fortified settlements. Warlords, raider
gangs, and nomadic clans battle for control of fuel, water, and surviving
technology. Armored convoys roam the wastes, and civilization survives through
scavenging, trade, and brute force. Caelus is a harsh frontier where survival
is never guaranteed.
Seber — The Black Sun
Classification: Red
System | Extreme Navigational Hazard
Seber is a deadly, uninhabited system dominated by a
stellar-mass black hole drawing material from a massive companion star. Its
brilliant accretion disk produces lethal radiation, while powerful relativistic
jets and dangerous gravitational conditions threaten vessels approaching the
inner system. Barren planets, shattered moons, and abandoned installations
surround the Black Sun. Imperial navigation authorities have designated Seber a
restricted Red System, and most experienced captains give the system a wide
berth.
Duskfell — The Twilight Expanse
Classification: Red
System | Restricted | Hazardous
Duskfell is a remote and dangerous system known for its dim
primary star, unstable stellar activity, and extensive fields of orbital
debris. Its handful of barren and marginally habitable worlds are dotted with
abandoned settlements and decaying industrial facilities. Unpredictable
radiation storms frequently disrupt communications and navigation, making
travel hazardous. Although officially designated a restricted system,
independent salvagers and desperate prospectors occasionally venture into
Duskfell seeking valuable materials among its forgotten installations.
Rathen — The Noble Houses
Classification: Non-Aligned
| Feudal Society | Low–Moderate Tech
Rathen is an independent system dominated by a temperate,
heavily populated world governed by powerful hereditary noble houses. Ancient
traditions, political alliances, and family rivalries shape its society, where
advanced imported technology exists alongside centuries-old customs. The ruling
aristocracy maintains private armies and fortified estates, while merchants and
off-world traders operate under strict local agreements. Rathen maintains
limited diplomatic relations with the Imperium but fiercely protects its
sovereignty and traditional way of life.
Thorne's Gate — The Blue Monster
Classification: Red
System | Extreme Stellar Hazard | Uninhabited
Thorne's Gate is a deadly star system dominated by an
enormous, unstable blue supergiant known as the Blue Monster. Approaching the
end of its stellar life, the star produces violent eruptions, intense radiation
storms, and electromagnetic disturbances that make navigation extremely
hazardous. The system contains several barren worlds and asteroid fields,
including an ancient, abandoned hive world whose immense cities have been
scorched by the star's relentless radiation. The origins of this lost civilization
remain unknown. With no permanent population and the ever-present threat of a
catastrophic supernova, Thorne's Gate is officially classified as a Red System
and avoided by most experienced navigators.
Nyx — The Dark Frontier
Classification: Non-Aligned
| Independent | Low-Light System
Nyx is a remote system orbiting a faint red dwarf, its
worlds receiving little natural illumination. Most settlements are concentrated
beneath the surfaces of cold, mineral-rich planets or within heavily insulated
orbital habitats. The inhabitants have developed a distinctive underground
culture supported by advanced geothermal engineering, mining, and specialized
manufacturing. Independent and somewhat isolationist, Nyx maintains limited
commercial relations with neighboring systems. Its dimly illuminated cities,
subterranean transit networks, and unusual technological traditions give the
system a mysterious reputation among travelers.
