K24: Kolde Caumfert Farm (PC's Rented Base)

Kolde Caumfert Farm is a large farmstead located just south of Malmon Hill. It was stripped of its lands years ago, sold off, and is now surrounded by the sparse northern outskirts of  Dinas Halak. The property passed through various owners, but the PC's are now renting it as their long-term home in the center of Halleck. The building is rough-looking but in serviceable condition, needing only minor repairs to be livable. Accommodations for the group's horses will be a bit tight, but between the stable and the barn, there is just enough room. It costs $500/month, and they have it for at least six months. It is safe to assume that another $100/month will take care of provisions for the horses, maintenance, and cleaning by locals and the former captives.

Of the former captives, several have opted to join the PC's as assistants. The others disperse into the city or elsewhere.

  • Astrid Skaldmaer is a former farm laborer; she will be happy to manage the care of the horses in exchange for room, board, and safety. She has no desire to return to the Northlands, and plans to make a new life here. She tends to remain outside in the yard more than coming inside. She will constantly suggest upgrades to the old forge area as a way to be more valuable.
  • Manaia Te Rangi is a sailor, but he is also a laborer, and realizes that for the time being it is a good deal offered him. He will work under Astrid's direction with farm labor and other heavy tasks. Manaia is absurdly strong, and a skilled wrestler, and remains cheerful as he works.
  • Hinewai Ngāher was a peasant back at home, and misses his people. Like Manaia, he realizes he is far from home, and this is a pleasant deal working at the farm. Hinewai will handle general tasks as needed for room and board. Notably, he spends a lot of time learning Kehler, and still plans to make his way south to Terathmin as soon as he figures out how.
  • Theodora Komnena finds domestic labor to be beneath her station, though she will do it competently. Currently her skills with Kehler Imperial law and finance are irrelevant, but work for room and board are the best offer she has. The instant the PC's find themselves in legal or financial trouble, Theodora will leverage her abilities for better living conditions, possibly offering to act as the PC's "hiring agent" or business manager... assuming such things come up.
  • Pikku-Lauri Surnu remains an unknown quantity. He hangs out in the compound, neither helping nor being a burden. Once he discovers the root cellar, he digs a hole out through the side of the building, covers it with a lid like a trapdoor spider, and makes a home down there. After a few days, he comes out and follows Daisy around trying to be useful. When not doing that, Pikku-Lauri lurks in unexpected places; anyone who watches him long enough realizes he is standing watch, but from very unconventional locations. He is essentially the house gargoyle.
