Dem and Mattie will handle your back office stuff - including job negotiations and payroll; all you have to do is decide whether or not to accept any particular mission. The base pay for units such as Kingston Kinetics is pretty straightforward:
- $1000 per team member base pay in advance
- $500 per team member per day of expected deployment (specified in advance)
- $1000 per surviving team member upon successful completion.
This is the base pay. KK is a brand-new unit and has not established any reputation beyond whatever an individual might possess. Once a few successful missions are completed, Demetrius can demand better pay for more hazardous missions. Medical care and funeral arrangements are typical for the industry.... an old but serviceable autodoc and several cots in a backroom, and arrangements for cremation and interment in a little cemetery on the ridgeline overlooking Dawn Lake. Very pretty.
Most missions will take 1d4-1 days, 0 being something close to city limits. Most current missions are offered by the Tanstaafl Free Legion (TFL), supporting their own military operations in defense of the colony. Some missions are offered by the colonial government, either the city or the Bellamy Administration, usually security, escort, or even SWAT duties; it is important to remember that the TFL "army" is actually a giant merc outfit all its own, and is not the same as the government. There are different priorities and even tension between the civilian government and the TFL, though they cooperate well at the moment. A few contracts are offered by corporations and even private individuals, usually involving prowling around deep in Kafer-occupied territory to accomplish some particular goal.
Demetrius has a small office geodome building on Kingston Road, between Downtown and Maverix that they have purchased for Kleiber’s business interests, but all of that has been thrown into disarray by the invasion. They have a jeep in the garage, a small arsenal of basic, "no frills" pistols, assault rifles, a box of grenades, and about 120 men/days of emergency supplies. All of this is hidden in the basement, accessible through the storage room. Part of Dem's warehouse will be set aside for use by Kingston Kinetics, separate from Demetrius' other business ventures - he will secure you a prefab home to use as an office and dorm next door to the geodome, and you will have a separate garage door and side door.
The motor pool is fairly limited, however. Demetrius owns a small 4WD vehicle, and has acquired a couple of dirtbikes, but the main strength of KK's motor pool is a single surplus MRAP that Demetrius won in a card game.
Surplus MRAP 5 (Large), 0 Hnd, 120mph Toughness 18 (6), Crew 1+7 50K
Notes: Four-Wheel Drive. Weapons: Light MG (Front Pintle Mount)
